Last year’s Frozen mania has been replaced by a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles obsession. Adeline is Donatello and Shiloh is Michelangelo (nicknamed Donnie and Mikey). I was pretty adamant about not dressing up this year BUT while picking up items for the kids’ home made costumes at good ole Walmart, I happened upon a cute, comfy grown-up Ninja Turtles tunic and I really couldn’t pass it up. So then we needed to involve Dad, too, and no team of teenage reptile sewer dwellers would be complete without a big slice of pizza. We’re so lucky that my husband is a good sport. Enjoy!Site8site1Site2Site5Site3Site4Site6 Untitled-1PS

  1. Started experimenting with off camera flash this past week. I dream of someday doing some studio portraiture in addition to my on-location natural light work. It’s a ways off, but it’s great to set long-term goals!
  2. Underwood Family Farms near our house is all set up for fall (with a pumpkin patch, mini corn maze, and autumn decor) so we took the kids there for a picnic lunch and to feed the animals last week. I see several more visits in our future during Halloween season :)
  3. Looking forward to the husband’s upcoming 12-day vacation from work! Lots of family fun planned.
  4. Just finished a great book- “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline. It was terrific. I’m looking forward to starting JoJo Moyes’ sequel to “Me Before You,” “After You.” Absolutely LOVED the former and hoping the sequel doesn’t disappoint!
  5. Finally got around to starting Arrested Development on Netflix. It’s one of my husband’s faves and I’ve wanted to start it forever. Liking it so far- great characters.

A Real Life Fairy Tale https://sweetadelinephoto.com/a-real-life-fairy-tale/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/a-real-life-fairy-tale/#comments Mon, 07 Sep 2015 01:05:49 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1956 Last week, I had the pleasure of shooting Adeline in a gorgeous, custom Hippity Hoot Notions dress. When you have such a fabulous dress to build your shoot around, you have to come up with some pretty novel (okay, maybe slightly nutty) ideas. For me, that meant taking my sweet kitty out for the shoot- on a leash. My kitty who has been strictly indoor-only for about 7 years (however, we did take her in as an outdoor stray all those years ago, so maybe some of her alley-cat days came back to her). The shoot also had to include a balloon. Not just any balloon would do. No, for this dress, big and beautiful as it is, a ginormous balloon was required (I nearly couldn’t fit it in my compact car). Shout-out to my amazing husband for assisting. Three separate locations, a leashed cat, a giant balloon, and a dress that was too big to fit in a car seat so had to be put on and taken off at each location- I hit the husband lottery. And the images are truly everything I’d hoped they would be and more. Photographer and mama friends, please check out Hippity Hoot for your custom dress needs. Her custom designs are absolutely breathtaking! You can find her on Facebook as well: Hippity Hoot Notions. Enjoy!HH2HH1HH3HH4HH7HH6HH5HH8HH9HH10PS

  1. What are you watching on TV lately? For me, it’s Bachelor In Paradise and the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (hilarious!)
  2. Speaking of entertainment..current book: “the Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty. Really enjoying it! I’m told she has several other good books too, so they’re now in my queue. I love when I hit on a new (to me, anyway) great author!
  3. Family portrait sessions galore coming up! Set up your holiday sessions now to ensure a slot! :)
  4. Busy busy week ahead- shoots, various appointments, Back to School Night, and activities- hoping for lots of energy and productivity!
  5. Also looking forward to getting my husband for three (and a half) days. He’s been overworked lately (as have all of his hardworking co-workers) and I’m excited to have some family time- even if we’re running around like crazy!

Have a great week all!

Sisters at Sunset https://sweetadelinephoto.com/sisters-at-sunset/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/sisters-at-sunset/#comments Tue, 05 May 2015 16:42:40 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1852 Lately I’ve been loving the hazy, backlit look. A few weeks ago we took our girls out to a regional park and hiking spot for a little golden hour fun. And I can honestly say that we all actually had fun (not always the case when I photograph my own kids!). The girls frolicked in grassy fields, ran up and down hilly hiking trails, admired passing dogs and greeted their owners. It was a beautiful evening and I love the images. These two are my reasons for everything! I hope you enjoy! <3Wildwood-Blog2Wildwood-Blog7Wildwood-Blog11Wildwood-Blog1Wildwood-Blog10Wildwood-Blog5Wildwood-Blog3Wildwood-Blog14Wildwood-Blog4Wildwood-Blog9Wildwood-Blog12Wildwood-Blog6Wildwood-Blog8Wildwood-Blog13PS

  1. We took the girls to Build A Bear last week. It was Shiloh’s first time. Both girls had a blast!
  2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Adeline is so into them! I never would’ve guessed that I’d have to go through two rounds of obsession with the heroes in a half-shell (the first being my brother’s in the early ’90’s!).
  3. Adeline has also been into taking pictures lately, which excites me to no end. She often asks if she can borrow my phone to snap a pic of something. I love it (except when she asks to take pics of me first thing in the morning)!
  4. Two favorite easy snacks lately: Trader Joe’s ready-to-eat lentils (refrigerated section) mixed with their bruschetta sauce (also refrigerated section) and crumbled feta served with pita chips; OR the lentils mixed with their Goddess dressing, also served with pita chips- equally delicious!
  5. My essential oil of choice this week: DoTerra’s DigestZen, as I’ve had two girls with a nasty stomach bug :( Here’s hoping Adeline (she’s the latest victim) is on the mend!

Spring Sunset https://sweetadelinephoto.com/spring-sunset/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/spring-sunset/#respond Sat, 25 Apr 2015 01:54:05 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1823 I gotta say, this is one of my favorite shoots in a long time. Sometimes everything- the location, the light, the styling, the model- just comes together so perfectly, and this was one of those times. This little girl is so beautiful and the light was so pretty and golden and hazy that day. She is turning 4 years old soon, and we had fun playing with sand and sticks and talking about Disney movies- things I can definitely relate to with my own stick-, sand-, and Disney-loving little gals! Enjoy 😉Brynn-Blog4Brynn-Blog14Brynn-Blog11Brynn-Blog12Brynn-Blog7Brynn-Blog8Brynn-Blog5Brynn-Blog13Brynn-Blog10Brynn-Blog9Brynn-Blog6Oh, and this kid had the BEST out take faces EVER. 1. Had dinner with a great friend last night. Good friends are good for the soul! I needed the talk therapy :)
  2. Took the girls to Build-A-Bear today. It was Shiloh’s first time (Adeline has been before). We had so much fun!
  3. I finally read the book ‘Me Before You.’ I’ve been meaning to forever, but always put it off because I heard it was a tear-jerker. It totally is, but also so worth it! I can’t wait for the movie.
  4. Enrolled Adeline in Pre-K a few weeks ago. I cannot believe I’m going to have a little Pre-K kid come fall!
  5. Went to the Malibu Family Winery last weekend for one of my best friends’ birthdays. I love it there! On a warm sunny day with a blanket and picnic packed, it’s so perfect!

Welcome Baby H! https://sweetadelinephoto.com/welcome-baby-h/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/welcome-baby-h/#respond Sun, 15 Mar 2015 17:11:45 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1798 It was so good to see these four for a recent in-home newborn lifestyle session welcoming sweet Baby H. She’s already in great hands with her adorable big sis. And it must be noted, how perfect is their home for a lifestyle session? It’s straight out of a magazine! Congratulations, my friends!Hazel-Blog4Hazel-Blog6Hazel-Blog-7Hazel-Blog5Hazel-Blog8Hazel-Blog3Hazel-Blog9Hazel-Blog2Hazel-Blog1PS

  1. We’ve had a glimpse of summer these past few days! It’s been in the 80’s and 90’s…need to switch from heater to AC (or in our case, box and ceiling fans, haha).
  2. Checked out a potential Pre-K for our big girl this past week. I can’t believe she’ll be starting school in the fall! *tear*
  3. Our youngest, Shiloh, 2 years at the end of this month, is becoming quite the girly-girl lately. She is obsessed with dresses and dressing up, shoes (she’s even been living in our 3-foot Anna doll’s blue plastic ones that so happen to fit her feet), and all things pink! It’s a bit of a new experience for us, as her big sis has always been into pirates and the color red (they both, however, harbor a ‘Frozen’ obsession like seemingly all kids of their ages).
  4. Gorgeous fiery sunsets lately!
  5. Had a 1st Communion mini portrait session recently- a first for me! I love the images. I probably won’t be blogging them, as it was only a mini and I’ve shared a few on my Facebook page already, but if you’re interested in seeing them, follow me on Facebook at Sweet Adeline Photography.

My Baby’s Turning 2! https://sweetadelinephoto.com/my-babys-turning-2/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/my-babys-turning-2/#respond Thu, 05 Mar 2015 01:34:54 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1766 Why does everything I start to type about my youngest turning 2 sound so clichéd and trite? I keep deleting and trying again, but can’t seem to get around “I can’t believe it” and “time flies.” Well, I guess those phrases are overused for a reason! Seems like only yesterday I was moving cities while 8 months pregnant. Our (two years’) “new” city is the only home this little girl has ever known, which seems a bit strange to this deeply rooted, born-and-raised South Bay girl. But not only is this city proving to be a great place to raise our girls, it also boasts some lovely photo shoot locations, two of which I got to try out on this cutie. This sweet girl is loving, cuddly, funny, expressive, and opinionated. She adores her big sister, our cats, dressing up, and “Let it Go.” She has brought so much happiness, laughter, and light to our family. Happiest 2nd Birthday, sweet Shiloh!Shiloh-Blog6Shiloh-Blog5Shiloh-Blog7Shiloh-Blog4Shiloh-Blog2Shiloh-Blog3Shiloh-Blog11Shiloh-Blog1Shiloh-Blog10Shiloh-Blog9Shiloh-Blog8PS

  1. It’s that time of year again. Reese’s pieces egg time. Those things do me in every year.
  2. ‘The Girl on the Train.’ My new fave book. Up there with ‘Gone Girl’ in my humble opinion.
  3. Fried Top Ramen. Boil water, cook ramen for about 4 minutes, drain completely, mix in seasonings packet, fry in a skillet until noodles get a little crispy and delicious. You’re welcome.
  4. Spring is just around the corner! Looking forward to Easter, warmer weather, my tulips blooming…
  5. …although, I must say that I really enjoyed the hailstorm and thunder showers we had the other day, and wouldn’t mind a few more April showers one bit! 😉

the Three Musketeers https://sweetadelinephoto.com/the-three-musketeers/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/the-three-musketeers/#respond Thu, 19 Feb 2015 20:08:56 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1747 I enjoyed meeting these three recently and taking their first family portraits! I adore sessions like this, where I get to capture a lot of authentic moments and kids just being kids- collecting sticks, climbing trees, snuggling loveys. And for anyone planning a family session, don’t forget how important it is to grab a few shots of just Mom & Dad, too- after all, your family started with a couple! Love the couple shot from this session. Enjoy!McClaren-Blog8McClaren-Blog6McClaren-Blog9McClaren-Blog7McClaren-Blog4McClaren-Blog2McClaren-Blog1McClaren-Blog3McClaren-Blog3PS

  1. Adeline got her FIRST ever hair cut (well, it was more like a trim, but still!) yesterday. Lucky for us, I have a former hair stylist for a Mom. Photo documentation here.
  2. And Shiloh will be TWO in just a little over a month. My babies are growing up! :'(
  3. Although I’m always grateful for good friends, I’m feeling extra so lately. I really do have some amazing friends and I am so very lucky!
  4. Started watching “Parenthood” recently (have I mentioned this already? I always forget my P.S.’s). We are at least halfway though the first season and I love it so far.
  5. And then there’s my guilty pleasure…the Bachelor. “The Women Tell All” is coming up, people! 😉

Faux Storm 2015 https://sweetadelinephoto.com/faux-storm-2015/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/faux-storm-2015/#respond Thu, 29 Jan 2015 16:54:20 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1695 I have wanted to take photos of my girl/s in the snow forever now. The problem is, we live in Southern CA and although we could probably access snow in about a two hours’ drive, between the husband’s work schedule and our demanding calendar, I just wasn’t sure it would happen for us this year. So, rather than just add “snow images” to my ever-growing list of goals, I decided to play a little. A few months back, while on a walk on one of our local walking trails, I had noticed this little heavily wooded pocket of bare branches and logs and thought it would be perfect for a winter scene. So I took my 4 year old out and had some fun! The best part was, we only shot for about 10 minutes or so. After that, we spent some quality one-on-one time (a rarity these days, since I usually have both kids) checking out nature, collecting pinecones, and her favorite- yelling in the tunnel and listening for our echoes. It was a nice little outing and I’m pleased with the images. But mark my words- next year (hey, maybe even this year, you never know), I will get to the ACTUAL snow to play (and take a few pictures, of course).Snow-Blog-1Snow-Blog-4Snow-Blog-3Snow-Blog-2Snow-Blog-5PS

  1. The hubby and I got to have a Happy Hour date last night at the little cafe around the corner. I love having my parents close so my mom can come watch the kids for little quickie outings! So nice.
  2. We finished the series “How I Met Your Mother” a few nights ago. I don’t want to ruin anything for those who might Netflix it, but I will say that it left me SO emotional! I loved that show, I’m going to miss watching it!
  3. In need of a new show, we started “Parenthood” last night. We just watched the pilot. I’ve heard great things about it.
  4. Reading the newest Diane Chamberlain book, “the Silent Sister,” after finishing up “Necessary Lies” last week. Man, I love Diane!
  5. Made cauliflower pizza crusts last week. They turned out great and were delicious!

Oh, Brothers! https://sweetadelinephoto.com/oh-brothers/ https://sweetadelinephoto.com/oh-brothers/#respond Sun, 18 Jan 2015 17:23:49 +0000 http://sweetadelinephoto.com/?p=1658 I love this family so much! This was one of those rare fun occasions where I had the pleasure of photographing friends. I adore these shots because I feel that they really convey who this family is- lots of fun and lots of love between them. The authentic interactions here make me happy. I love it when families just play together and sort of forget I’m around- that’s when I capture the real moments. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!Stachos-Blog1Stachos-Blog2Stachos-Blog3Stachos-Blog4Stachos-Blog5Stachos-Blog6Stachos-Blog7Stachos-Blog8PS

  1. The husband has had a few days off and we celebrated his birthday. We enjoyed a lovely date night at the Ranch House Ojai. It’s so beautiful there! I highly recommend it if a unique dining experience in a romantic garden setting sounds up your alley.
  2. Butterscotch Peanut Butter Cake. This is the birthday cake I made hubby. Oh my goodness.
  3. Shiloh wore her first pigtails yesterday! I could hardly stand the cuteness <3
  4. My little wild bunnies are back! We have a couple of little bunnies that come through our backyard and eat the little fruits that fall from our palm trees, and I hadn’t seen them for a few months, but they’re back now. I just love all the wildlife in our yard- bunnies, squirrels, roadrunners, quail, monarch butterflies, hummingbirds…and yes, snakes in the summer (not my fave). One of the best things about living in our new city right up against a creek!
  5. I’ve been photographing food a bit lately. I’ve always loved cooking and baking, but before recently I never mingled my photography and food passions. I like it, though! It’s a unique challenge for me. Follow my food Facebook page Bad Hunters, Good Cooks to see a few of my recent food shots and to get easy, *usually* healthy, family-friendly recipes and meal ideas. And while I’m at it, if you don’t already, follow my Facebook photography page as well, Sweet Adeline Photography, to see news and recent session sneaks!
